15 minutes with the iPhone 4
I had a chance to check out the new iPhone at the mall yesterday. Some brief impressions:
The display is fantastic. I compared it side-by-side with my HTC Incredible, and the iPhone display was way nicer, even without considering resolution.
The buttons feel great. They have deeper travel and firmer responsiveness than my Incredible or past iPhones for that matter.
I didn’t love the...
iPhone 4 Reaction from an HTC Incredible User
Because of the iPhone OS 4 demo from Apple and the Gizmodo leak, I pretty much knew what was coming from Apple when I switched from iPhone 3GS to Incredible. Having now seen the videos for what Apple is bringing out, I thought I’d share my reaction to the iPhone 4 announcement.
First things first, I live and work in a part of Boston where AT&T and Verizon both have great coverage, so...
The end of crappy dedicated pocket cameras
I recently read an interesting post by Dave Winer complaining about a Lumix ad he saw which read “If it’s got a ringtone, it’s not a camera.”
I can understand why Panasonic ran the ad, which is that it appeals to the old photo dawgs. The purists. The ones who want physical dials for aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, and for whom features like face detection, geotagging,...
The iTunes crutch
I always liked pocket computers. As a physician, they were an invaluable resource, but beyond that, I was always fascinated by the capability. I bought and used a ton of Palm OS and Pocket PC devices.
The last Pocket PC I owned was the HP hx4705:
With a 4” VGA screen, 624 MHz processor, 1,800mAh user replaceable battery (optional 3,600mAh battery) and aftermarket RAM upgrade to...
iPad and the future of iPad-like devices
I’ve used the iPad a fair bit now, enough to realize that there’s no place for it in my house. Browsing on it is a wonderful experience, except when it isn’t.
Example: I have been following the French Open with great interest. On my $400 netbook, there is an amazing app for this. It’s called the “web browser”. I point it to...
Soderling and Nadal to meet again in the French...
Robin Soderling played an amazing match today. I didn’t think Soderling had what it took to beat Federer, but the heavy, wet conditions gave him that split second extra to line up some amazing power baseline strokes and outgun the Swiss #1.
Berdych too played extremely well, but I don’t think Soderling will lose to him in their semifinal. Nadal shouldn’t have too much trouble...
