Tips for Good Battery Life with an HTC Incredible

  1. Under Menu>Settings>Accounts & Sync: Disable sync for any apps you don’t need to stay synced in real-time.  I disabled sync for Flickr, News, Stocks, and Weather.
  2. Use the Power Control widget to control Wifi, GPS, and Bluetooth so those are easy to access and turn off when you aren’t using them.  Also makes it easy to change screen brightness on the fly.
  3. When possible, charge the phone while it is powered off.  It gets a fuller charge that way.  As an experiment, try charging while the phone is powered on until the indicator is green, indicating a full charge.  Then without removing the charge cable, power down.  The indicator will turn orange for another 40 minutes or so before turning green again.  That’s a lot of juice you aren’t getting if you charge with the power on!
  4. Consider rooting and using a custom kernel.  I’m using a ROM called Virtuous Rom with a custom kernel by Adrynalyne which seems to give me better battery life.
  5. If your battery still drains fast, use OS Monitor (download from the Market) to see whether there is an app constantly using your CPU.

Those things made a big difference for me, and I can easily get through a day without charging or switching batteries.  Despite that, I went ahead and picked up the optional 2150mAh battery.  It adds bulk but not very much.  It was on sale at my local Verizon store, and now I finish the day with more than 60% juice left, which is nice.
